Assistant Accountant

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Assistant Accountant to join our dynamic and engaging Finance team on a permanent, full-time basis. The Assistant Accountant is responsible for providing financial accounting and compliance assistance to the group finance team. 

About you:

You will enjoy working within a full function Finance team, and report directly into the Finance Manager. Thriving in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, you will have a high level of autonomy and be able to draw on your strong multi-tasking and time-management capabilities to meet tight deadlines. 

Key duties and responsibilities include:

• Process month end journals, including review of allocated general ledger accounts/ business areas and posting of relevant accruals, prepayments, and inventory adjustments
• Maintain and reconcile assigned Balance Sheet accounts, and assist with monthly GST compliance
• Deliver high level customer service to internal and external stakeholders
• Assist with preparation of audit workpapers and reconciliations that meet group external audit requirements
• Identify improvements in the accounting and reporting of transactions, reducing time to complete
• Complete any other ad hoc duties as requested by the Finance Leadership team

To be successful in this role:

• Some prior experience in comparable Assistant Accountant/commercial finance role
• Bachelor degree in Accounting or equivalent, or studying towards (desirable)
• Be comfortable and confident engaging with stakeholders at all levels 
• Experience in reconciliations, journal posting and month-end activities 
• Be self-directed and motivated with with strong prioritising skills to meet tight deadlines
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, v-lookup and ‘sum-if’ functions
• Have an improvement mindset and make process improvement recommendations
• A team player with a can-do attitude
