Description:
We are looking for a Research Assistant to participate in a detailed 1-year metallurgical R&D project, focussed on rare earth extraction and recovery. The candidate will participate in every aspect of the industrial research experimentation:
- conducting and documenting literature research,
- preparation of job safety analyses,
- preparing equipment setup,
- conduct experiments,
- collection and preparation of samples for external analysis,
- AAS and other analysis of samples,
- cleaning and pack up after experiments,
- ordering of equipment and supply,
- all other general laboratory operations.
The ideal candidate MUST have:
- a strong interest in inorganic chemistry, particularly minerals chemistry and metallurgy,
- a practical problem-solving approach to technical challenges,
- a proactive approach to everything you do,
- experience in scientific literature research,
- experience in rare earth chemistry strongly desirable, but not compulsory,
- an undergraduate degree in chemistry,
- strong attention to detail,
- excellent attitude to safe work, for themselves and colleagues,
- clear and effective communications,
- effective record-keeping and documentation skills,
- attention to laboratory cleanliness and hygiene, and
- AAS experience preferred, but not essential.
