This is a fantastic and rare opportunity for a candidate with extensive quantitative, problem solving, statistical and analytical experience, whether an early-career PhD graduate wishing to expand their teaching expertise or applied statistician wishing to share their knowledge with students enrolled in these vibrant, keenly sought after and professionally accredited Actuarial Science and expanding Data Science courses. This exciting and innovative role will allow you to make original contributions to learning and teaching and deliver high-quality teaching in Statistics and Data Science.

You will play a key role in shaping curriculum initiatives, advancing research, and contributing to governance within the school and the broader university.

Teaching:
 

  • Conduct learning activities, online or face-to-face as appropriate, which stimulate and foster student learning.
  • Keep abreast of current discipline theory and practice and apply these in teaching and learning.
  • Develop innovative curriculum design and learning materials in collaboration with other colleagues as appropriate.
  • Undertake a range of administrative functions connected with the subjects taught, including unit co-ordination and moderation and assessment of student work.
  • Supervise the program of study of honours students and postgraduate students engaged in coursework.
     

Research:
 

  • Undertake nationally competitive and high-quality research in the school.
  • Participate in and act as co or chief investigator in applications for competitive funding.
  • Disseminate research findings through seminars, workshops and conferences.
  • Publish/exhibit in high quality refereed journals/outlets in manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
  • Provide effective supervision for honours, research masters, and research doctoral students.
  • Aspire to be recognised nationally for research in the fields of statistics and data science.
  • Undertake administrative functions associated with research activities.
     

Service and Leadership
 

  • Contribute to academic service, collegiality and engagement, including efficient management of internal service roles.
  • Significantly contribute to external activities relevant to the discipline/profession and community engagement.
  • Contribute to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment through modelling a high standard of professional behaviour consistent with the University Code of Conduct and Vision, Mission and Values.

Qualifications:
 

  • A doctoral qualification in Applied Statistics or closely related discipline.
     

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
 

  • Proven high level teaching skills with a demonstrated reflective approach to teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching applied statistics, actuarial statistics and related data science subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • A strong understanding of pedagogical theory and contemporary educational practice relevant to the discipline.
  • A track record of research outputs in high quality refereed academic journals consistent with the discipline.
  • Ability to attract research funding through grants and industry projects
  • Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to fostering a collegial and supportive learning environment, and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position.
